GIVEN the title, I was sure the Victoria Hall would either be full of over-the-top festive decor and fake snow, or lots of middle-aged people wearing platform shoes who hadn't changed their hairstyles since 1979.
One would have been expected; both might have been a bit much, but to find neither was quite disappointing.
The first act, Mud II, did at least attempt to add a bit of festive fun to the proceedings, albeit only by donning Santa hats to sing that cheery yuletide anthem, Lonely This Christmas.
Merry xmas everybody up from 45 to no 35 in this weeks UK chart.

James Whild Lea?
You probably know him as Jim Lea of Slade fame. But if you’re expecting Therapy (Jim Jam Rcords) to be full of those classic Slade style stompers, then look elsewhere. The studio CD here is classy, introspective, beautifully crafted mature rock, which nods at Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham. It is understated, yet compelling. The Smile Of Elvis and Universe are just terrific. Spicing up the package is a live recording on a second CD from the Robin 2 in Bilston. This is full of rock ‘n’ roll standards belched out with a full-on energy by Lea.

Untouchables Hard Rock Club presenterer en nostalgisk godbit for folk vant til glam, glitter og platåsko fra et tidlig 70-tall. Slade er klare til Glassheim 4. juni. Slade var kanskje det mest fremtredende glam rock-bandet på 70-tallet. De var på sitt beste når de utnyttet sine røtter, elementer av enkel allsangpreget pubmusikk. Da Slade var på toppen av sin karriere var de det mestselgende bandet i England. De mest kjente sangene er trolig «Merry Xmas Everybody» (desember 1973), «My oh My» og «Far Far Away», som fremdeles i dag spilles mye på radio.

"Tuomo (born as Tuomo Prättälä, 1979). Soul-singer, jazz pianist, composer, lyricist and producer. Tuomo began taking piano lessons at the age of 7. After Sibelius Senior Secondary School of Music, Helsinki Conservatory of Pop and Jazz and the civil service as sound engineer in the Finnish Theater Academy, he started his career as a professional musician.
During 2002-2006 Tuomo contributed in 10 full-length albums in 7 different line-ups. Together with his various bands he was nominated for Jazz Emma Award for 4 times, won 2 international jazz contests, received the highly-acclaimed Finnish Teosto Award, was The Young Artist of the Year chosen by Finland Festivals and toured intensively all around the world.
In January 2007 Tuomo released his first solo album titled “My Thing”, which immediatelly hit Finnish Top 10 and received only rave 5-star, 4-star reviews. “My Thing” is singer-songwriter music based strongly on 70s soul heritage.
Mr. Gilles Peterson, the most famous and influential DJ and broadcaster in the world, has been a big fan of Tuomo’s since the first single “Don’t take it too hard” saw daylight. The song was for long included in Gilles’ MySpace player.
In Japan, the single has reached number 5 on J-Wave’s Tokyo Hot 100 Chart and continues to be in Top 10 on many radio stations' playlists. First international tours covering Japan, Germany, Austria and Estonia took place in late 2007.
In 2008, Tuomo mainly focused on recording his new album. It was released in February 2009 and titled "Tuomo Reaches out for you". Naturally both audience and critics were a little suspicious if Tuomo will be able to make an album as pleasing as the first one, but it turned out that "Reaches..." is even better - if possible. It has gained even more international interest than "My thing". Japanese, German and Dutch tours are happening before autumn of 2009.
Being a "duracel bunny" (the nickname Finnish media has given him), Tuomo has already some of the recordings done for the 3rd album that is due to be released around Christmas 2009."

Rage against Cowell is fun claims Noddy
Slade star Noddy Holder said Rage Against the Machine’s surprise triumph in the race to be Christmas number one had put the excitement back into the festive charts.
The former frontman, who penned the band’s 1973 Christmas hit Merry Xmas Everybody, said the race for the top spot had become far too predictable with the winner of X Factor claiming it every year since 2005. He spoke out at Walsall’s Banks’s Stadium hours before Killing in the Name was named this week’s biggest selling single over competition winner Joe McElderry.
Yeah, he wrote THAT song. And now he's on NME.COM, so that must mean it's Chriiiiistmas.
It doesn’t matter how many times you’ve heard ‘Merry Xmas Everybody’ already – it still needs to be heard.
I’m very proud of ‘Merry Xmas Everybody’. Thirty-six years on and it’s never been deleted from the label’s catalogue! We always knew we had a hit on our hands – even in 1973 – but we never thought it would still be popular in 2009.

ART-topper Noddy Holder has received an early Christmas present after Rooney’s house builder fixed the road where he lives.
The former Slade frontman blamed builders working on the homes of top Premier League footballers for creating massive potholes.
Construction vehicles travelled past his home while working on properties owned by Rooney, his Manchester United team-mate Wes Brown and Manchester City star Stephen Ireland in Prestbury, Cheshire.
Now home builder to the stars Dawn Ward has made sure the contractors have mended any damage.
When Slade flew to New York in September 1973, getting into the festive spirit was the last thing on their minds.
The city was in the middle of a heatwave and the group were dealing with the aftermath of a car crash that nearly claimed the life of drummer Don Powell.
But the quartet, the biggest band in Britain at that time, had to cut a Christmas single. That song, Merry Xmas Everybody, has become one of the greatest seasonal classics.

Along with Turkey, plum pudding and mince pies, Merry Xmas Everybody has been an essential Yuletide institution ever since its 1973 release. Holder’s Harmonization (0.38–0.44 revisited) Irrespective of whether Noddy wrote first the chords or the melody, these two elements clearly complement each other perfectly, with the chords providing logical harmonic support for the main melodic pitches of his tune. The following table summarizes the novelty of the melody which notably shuns the popular pitch path of an underlying 8–7-6–5 diatonic descent (of the G major scale) in favour of a cool, chromatic twist that unfolds 8–7-b7–5. Stripped to its bare essentials, that crucial b7 (the inspired F note on “every-body’s”) is the killer touch that makes the tune, while the similarly harmony-defining Bb supports it as the 5th of the chord.
Slade’s hit Merry Xmas Everybody has been heard by three billion people worldwide, almost half the planet’s population.
PRS for Music, which collects royalties for songwriters, says the 1973 tune, penned by Noddy Holder, 63, and Jimmy Lea, 60, has been paid by 47 countries this year alone.
PRS chairman Ellis Rich said: “It stands the test of time because it’s built on a foundation which sums up the cheerful season.”

Lennon's gift to Noddy Holder

"Legendary Walsall rocker Noddy Holder has told BBC WM how Slade had a little help from John Lennon when recording their most famous song.
Merry Xmas Everybody is still a festive favourite, 36 years after it hit number one in the UK.
Holder said that his band recorded the track in New York in 1973 - but were struggling to find the right intro sound.
So they popped into the adjacent studio and borrowed John Lennon's harmonium.
"The chords that you hear at the start of the song were actually borrowed from (Lennon's) harmonium," said Noddy.
"It was a really hot summer in New York in 1973. John Lennon was actually in the studio next door to us recording. He had a harmonium and we asked if we could borrow it because we were trying to find the sound to intro the song."

Noddy Holder looks back at the Seventies phenomenon that was the Top Of The Pops albums which, at their peak, enjoyed buoyant sales and topped the UK charts.
Noddy celebrates one of the forgotten musical successes of the decade and revisits the happy days when music fans could buy all their favourite tunes in Woolworth's for the price of a single, but they were just not quite the real thing!
The name was a masterstroke and their success was such an embarrassment to the industry that the major labels quickly ganged up to have them kicked out of the charts. Once the songs were chosen, the producers were given two weeks to get them in the shops. Singers would arrive at the studio to be told they had to record a perfect impression of Johnny Rotten, Mark Bolan or Freddie Mercury.
The programme features contributions from the producers, musicians and singers whose job it was cover songs like Bohemian Rhapsody in a couple of hours.

The playlist includes David Bowie, Rod Stewart, Queen and the Bee Gees. Kiki and Noddy also reflect on the work of some of Britain's greatest songwriters and share their own memories from the Seventies.
Here is a TV promo with Coz I Luv You from 1973 in Voorburg (The Netherlands) at the Popgala '73, a three hour TV show at the time, with acts as The Who, The Eagles, Rory Gallagher, Colin Blunstone, Chi Coltrane, Slade, Rod Argent, Supersister, Rod Stewart & The Faces, Ry Cooder, Gary Glitter.
Artists as Stevie Wonder and Wishbone Ash cancelled their performance in the weeks leading up to the event, Roxy Music on the day itself. Chi Coltrane blew up the loudspeakers. Pete Townshend was drunk during his encore. Nevertheless, the entire show was a big success.
After the TV show, the recorded tapes and the TV broadcast tape disappeared! Thirty-five years later some parts were retrieved, finally. Last weekend, a reconstruction of this unique popgala was shown on Dutch TV channel Nederland 3.

Noddy Holder and Slade are back for Christmas with a new album packed with hits and cover versions designed to get everyone dancing through the festive season.
To celebrate the release, Lee Davis spoke to the evergreen Mr Holder about the album, his school years and the glory days of Slade.
The new album, Party Hits, features 20 tracks, with all of Slade's greatest songs including Cum On Feel The Noize and Merry Xmas Everybody, originally released during the dark days of a recession-struck Britain in 1973.
In fact, recession has played its part in the decision to release Party Hits. As Noddy said: "2009 is a lot like 1973. There's economic turmoil.

NODDY HOLDER reckons the glory days of classic Christmas hits are over.
The Slade star, who penned festive favourite Merry Xmas Everybody, thinks X Factor winners doing "glorified karaoke" has spoiled the fun.
Noddy blasted: "There's no excitement there. There's no competition there. Everybody used to love thinking about what was going to be the Christmas No1.
"Now they know it's going to be the X Factor winner. If Merry Xmas Everybody came out now, it might get to No2.
"X Factor is great television, but musically it means nothing to me.
"It's all glorified karaoke. Middle of the road pap.
"Some of them are good singers, but you've got to have more than that. Why are these kids, like LEONA LEWIS, not writing their own songs? Where are the new songwriters?
"It is the first time in the history of pop music where things have become static and stale, with everything sounding and looking alike.
"And I can't see that changing if we stick in this bubble of reality TV and its command over the charts."
Noddy, who has new Slade compilation Merry Xmas Everybody - Party Hits out now, also took a pop at the record album sales SUSAN BOYLE has been clocking up.
Talking about the phenomenal figures, he added: "The mind boggles!

Slade will never re-form. That’s according to bassist Jim Lea.
Talking exclusively to Classic Rock, Lea – who, by his own admission, does very few interviews and is a very private person – had this to say:
“We do get offers. But it will just never happen. One reason is that Noddy [Holder] would have to lower the key for the songs, and it just wouldn’t feel the same. It’s what happens when you get older.
“The second reason is that it would tarnish our legend. It can’t ever be the same as it was in the 1970s. We are all different people now. It’s OK if you’ve carried on through the years like the Stones. But to pick up again after 25 years, as we’d have to do, just wouldn’t work. I’d rather everyone has their memories of us as we were.”
We’re also getting behind his new Christmas single which he has recorded with DJ Mike Reid, Slade’s Dave Hill, David Hamilton and Elliot Frisby. All proceeds of the single will go to The Shooting Star Children’s Hospice.

For 70s rocker Dave Hill, weekends are for family time but back in the day it was playing at festivals and Hollywood films. Here he reveals his favourite pastimes.
It’s Friday afternoon. What’s on your mind?
I’m often away performing at weekends, mostly in Scandinavian countries, so on a Friday I’m usually doing a spot of last-minute packing before being driven to Heathrow Airport to catch a flight. Don Powell and I still perform and there are two Slade albums coming out before Christmas.
Who normally has the pleasure of your company at the weekend?
Jubiläum – traumhaft, Premiere – umjubelt. Die Oldie-Fans in Thüringen haben ausgelassen das zehnjährige Jubiläum der "Traumzeit" gefeiert. Rund 10.000 Besucher kamen zu dem Event der Thüringer Zeitungsgruppe in die Erfurter Messehalle, der von MDR 1 RADIO THÜRINGEN und dem MDR THÜRINGEN JOURNAL präsentiert wurde. Viel Beifall gab es für MDR 1 RADIO THÜRINGEN-Moderator Matthias Karpe, der zum ersten Mal durch die Veranstaltung führte.

Album Of The Week: Slade Live At The BBC, Feel The Noise remastered
This is a 2CD set covering the years 1969 to 1972 when Slade were at their height. The guys are so much more than Merry Christmas Everybody, not that there is anything wrong with a Christmas song that makes everyone think of Christmas’ gone by.
This double album proves yet again that Slade began as a rock band rather than the glam rock gods they became. The songs on this powerful album are all rooted in solid foundations from the classics such as Mamma We’re All Crazee Now, their first really big hit Get Down And Get With It, written by Little Richard, and Let The Good Times Roll through to some of their unrecorded material.
There are some unusual covers such as Coloured Rain by Traffic which is given the Slade treatment, but retains its hint of psychedelia topped by power pop. The orchestral version of Nights In White Satin, written by The Moody Blues, is an epic track and Raven showcases the rock ‘n’ roll guitar at its best, a lilting, rollicking dose of Sladishness that has an undertone of country rock but with real bite.
The guys take on Getting Better by The Beatles is a kicker and Noddy Holder’s Gudbuy Gudbuy is pure Top Of The Pops when it was compulsive viewing.
The Radio 1 DJs contribution recalls the days of yore when the hard hitting rocksters created a whole new world of glam rock that has inspired generations. - Corking album for good ole British knees-up.

Manchester restaurants are getting in the festive spirit by yet again backing the Streetsmart campaign, which is designed to help homeless people over the winter.
Established in 1998, the scheme runs in all major cities throughout November and December. It is a simple, innovative, fundraising scheme which works during the holiday months when people often think about those less fortunate than themselves.

The StreetSmart ambassador for Manchester is former Slade frontman Noddy Holder who has demonstrated a deep understanding of and commitment to, the campaign for several years. Last year's campaign raised a massive £435,000 and Streetsmart hope to beat this in 2009, its eleventh year.
Noddy Holder MBE talks about Slade's latest adventure, a party compilation album. Slade started making music in 1969 and have had 20 hit albums during their career.
Holder spoke to BBC Breakfast about how much money he makes from royalties every time a Slade track is played.

Michael Stipe has revealed that if he could reform any band in history at the touch of a button it would be British glam rock group Slade. The Rem frontman told The Times that Noddy Holder's outfit were a strong influence on the youth of America in their 1970s heyday. Sipe said: "Slade - it'd be awesome. "1974 lernte ich meine Frau, Sabine auf dem Schulhof kennen. Sie gefiel mir auf Anhieb. Sie trug das blaue FDJ-Hemd unter einer roten Lederjacke mit Kirschen am Kragen und einen braunen Lederrock, der vorne Aufzuknöpfen ging. Aber es war sehr schwer an Sie ranzukommen, denn da Waren ja noch andere Verehrer. Ich wusste allerdings dass sie gerne zur Disco ging. Ende 1975 sollten wir uns als Schüler etwas einfallen lassen um Geld für eine Spende zu sammeln. Da viel mir ein, eine Disco in Weimar-Nord zu veranstalten und den Eintritt als Erlös für die Spenden zu nehmen. So könnte ich im gleichen Atemzug meiner Sabine imponieren. Am 19.12.1975 war es dann endlich soweit, beim Slade-Song "Everyday" bat ich Sabine zum tanzen und tatsächlich - wir tanzten! Nun dachte ich gleich bei mir, jetzt musst du dranbleiben! Ich versuchte Ihre Lippen zu berühren. Es klappte und wir küssten uns! Seitdem sind wir ein Paar. Bis heute bin ich ein treuer Slade-Fan und auch Sabine bin ich treu geblieben!" Volker Rosenau
Am 21. November 2009 ab 19 Uhr gibt es in der Messehalle Erfurt für alle Oldie-Fans Grund zu jubeln: 10 Jahre Traumzeit! Thüringens größte Oldie-Party feiert mit spektakulären Oldie-Originalen und fantastischer Multimedia-Show ihr großes Jubiläum.

Petra Zieger & Band eröffnen mit ihrem Hit "Traumzeit" traditionell die Oldie-Nacht. Das Warm-up vorab übernimmt dieses Jahr die grandiose Joe Cocker Revival Band von Mr. Joe.
Gefeiert wird bis weit in den Morgen, denn nach Mitternacht gibt es zur Party-Time in Halle 2 mit den elf Musikern von Invisible Touch die Musik- und Multimedia-Show "Best of Genesis & Phil Collins"! Während des gesamten Oldie-Abends läd die Halle 2 mit Video-Übertragung aus Halle 1 und reichlich Sitzgelegenheiten zum essen, trinken und relaxen ein.

Black Country rock promoter Maurice Jones, who played a major role in organising the Live Aid concert at Wembley Stadium in 1985, has died aged 64.
Maurice, whose first “office” was the public phone box at John Thompson’s Bilston works, where he was an apprentice, rose to become head of Walsall-based MCP – Midland Concert Promotions.
He died yesterday afternoon after a long battle with cancer, leaving widow Diane and daughters Kristy and Nicola.
Born in Wednesbury, Maurice started off managing The ’N Betweens, who later became Slade, and became a full-time agent aged 19 by joining Wolverhampton’s Astra Agency.

Die 70er-Jahre ließen grüßen: Konzert mit Rubettes, Sweet, Slade und Smokie in der Alsfelder Hessenhalle
(ar). Die 70er Jahre: Lange Haare und Rock `n´ Roll. Auch wenn bei den meisten Besuchern der "Classic Rock Night" inzwischen die Haare kürzer sind, tat dies der Stimmung am Samstag in der Alsfelder Hessenhalle keinen Abbruch. Schon vor Beginn reihte sich die Schlange der wartenden Rock-Fans um den halben Block der Konzerthalle - nicht umsonst hatte ein Großteil der Fans seine Karten schon weit über ein halbes Jahr im Voraus gekauft, um die Helden von damals,The Rubettes, The Sweet, Slade und Smokie wiederzusehen.
Alsfeld (sf). Am vergangenen Samstag hatte der Radiosender hr1 in Alsfeld zu einer besonderen Reise in die Geschichte des Rocks eingeladen. Bei dieser »Classic Rock Night« standen vier legendäre Bands der 197er auf der Bühne: The Rubettes, The Sweet, Slade und Smokie.
Unter dem Motto "über 30 Hits in 30 Jahren" fliegt die Band, die weltweit erfolgreicher ist als ABBA, nach Deutschland ein! Da wären z.B. "Love is like Oxygen", "Fox on the Run" und natürlich "Ballroom Blitz", um nur einige Meilensteine zu nennen. Auf dem Energy-Rock-Poster am Eingang prangt ein breites "Ausverkauft"-Banner: 900 Personen passen in die Eswe-Halle und sind laut Veranstalter auch gekommen. Für ein ausverkauftes Haus ist dennoch viel Platz zwischen den Gästen, als ‚Slade’ unter aufbrandendem Applaus die Bühne betreten. "Vielleicht haben die Veranstalter ja bewusst eingeplant, dass ältere Männer etwas mehr Platz brauchen“, frotzelt Hartmuth, reißt aber sogleich die Arme hoch, als Gitarrist Dave Hill die ersten typischen, einst röhrenverstärkten Töne aus den Boxen jagt.
Live At The BBC 4/5 This terrific compilation of cuts from concert and radio sessions shows why Slade were justly regarded as one of the most exciting British bands of the 70s. This double CD contains all the righteous rocking hits delivered in their golden period.

Infront of 1500 people in the audience SLADE played 1 hour ans 10 minutes and was rousing young and old !
RUN RUN AWAY made the total good spirit as also GET DOWN AND GET WITH IT. Encore was CUM ON FEEL THE NOIZE and MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY, as you can see from the setlist. After the concert we had the big luck to have a short chat with Don and Dave."

Glitzerklamotten und harte Riffs
Bunt, schrill und laut - das sind die wesentlichen Erkennungsmerkmale des Glamrock. Glitzerklamotten, Plateauschuhe und harte Riffs sind aber auch ein schlagkräftiges Trio. Zu den bekanntesten Vertretern dieser Musikrichtung zählt die Gruppe Slade. Auf ihr Konto gehen 16 Top-Twenty-Hits. Sechs ihrer Lieder eroberten sogar die Spitze der Charts. Songs wie wie "Cum on Feel the Noise", "Mama Weer All Crazee Now" und die Stadionhymne "My oh My" dürfen auch heute noch bei keiner zünftigen Rockfete fehlen.
Der ESWE Versorgungs AG ist es gelungen, die Musikgrößen für den Energy Rock am Freitag, 23. Oktober, nach Wiesbaden zu lotsen. Für Fans des guten alten Rock dürfte es ein Hochgenuss werden. Mittlerweile haben Schlagzeuger Don Powell, Gitarrist Dave Hill (die beiden gehören noch zur Urbesetzung), Sänger Mel Mc Nulty und Bassist John Berry die ausgefallenen Klamotten zwar an den Nagel gehängt, ihre Musik ist aber immer noch hammermäßig gut. "The Imagined Village at the Tower Festival in the Tower of London last night they closed with what was described as a traditional English folk song - 'Cum On Feel The Noize'! Martin Carthy and Billy Bragg took lead vocals"
"Billy Bragg came back on stage to sing 'Hard Times Of Old England Retold' that signalled the end of the set, but there was one more song. The biggest surprise of the evening came with the last song, introduced by Martin Carthy as an old traditional song that we'd all know and he began to slowly strum the opening chords. I thought, 'that sounds familiar...' and when he started to sing a big ole grin spread across my face as he and the Village began playing a slow acoustic version of that old traditional folk song, 'Cum On Feel The Noize' by the mighty SLADE! Sing along? O yes, I did! This was meant to be a big sing-along ending but it was, unfortunately, obvious that half the crowd had no idea what the song was (the standards of music education in this country are sadly rather poor) but that's their loss. I thought it was a great ending and sent me away happy and grinning."

Lørdag den 3. oktober kan man nemlig i Skjern Kulturcenter opleve et af de største julehits nogensinde, »Merry Xmas Everybody«, i originaludgaven med Slade, der giver koncert sammen med ligeså berømte Sweet.
Julen falder tidligt i Skjern i år. I hvert fald for alle med hang til 70’er glamrock-britpop. Lørdag den 3. oktober kan man nemlig i Skjern Kulturcenter opleve et af de største julehits nogensinde, »Merry Xmas Everybody«, i originaludgaven med Slade, der giver koncert sammen med ligeså berømte Sweet.
Selv om Slade har haft mange hits, overgår ét dem alle: juleevergreenen »Merry Xmas Everybody«.

Hardrock-Freunde schwelgen bei der Oldienight in Erinnerungen
Gürzenich. Wummernde Bassboxen, die selbst das Bier im Becher vibrieren ließen, und harte Gitarrenriffs - die Oldienight am Dürener Badesee war nichts für zart besaitete Zeitgenossen.
Dort, wo in den vergangenen Jahren Sänger wie Chris Andrews oder George McCrae noch sanftere Erinnerungen an die guten alten 70er Jahre weckten, gingen die britischen Altrocker von Sweet und Slade am Samstagabend noch deutlich härter ans Werk als im vergangenen Jahr die Rockröhre Suzie Quatro.

Düren – „Wir präsentieren auf der Oldie Night wieder echte Leckerbissen zum absoluten Schnäppchenpreis“, so DSB-Chef Richard Müllejans mit Blick auf den kommenden Samstag, 22. August.
Die Rock-Legenden Sweet („Ballroom Blitz“) und „Slade“ („My Oh My“) sind die Hauptacts des Konzerts, das von der DN-WOCHE präsentiert wird. Als „Einheizer“ sorgt die Band „Stingray“ für Stimmung vor der Seebühne. Tickets sind zum Preis von 20 Euro inklusive Gebühren in der Geschäftsstelle der DN-WOCHE in der Hans-Brückmann-Straße 2 erhältlich.
Eingebettet ist die Oldie Night in das von der Sparkasse Düren gesponserte Familienwochenende, das schon am kommenden Freitag, 21. August, mit „Rock am See“ beginnt. Hauptact ist hier die national erfolgreiche Dürener Band „Peilomat“. Außerdem kommen „Method of Madness“ und „Glory of Joann“ zum Einsatz.
Nach der Oldie Night am Samstag geht es dann am Sonntag mit dem „Country Day“ weiter. „Hier kann man echtes Westernatmosphäre genießen“, verspricht Organisator Willi Wolff. Auf dem Programm stehen: Bullriding, Hufeisenwerfen, Reiten, Kinderprogramm sowie Tanz- und Musikeinlagen mit der Westernband „Black Hills“ und den Line Dancern „Black Eagles“.

“In what might be a last-ditch attempt at reliving the commercial success Cheap Trick enjoyed during the 70s, the band are bringing back another ‘colourful’ by-product of that decade: the 8-track tape.
The band’s Latest album (yes, it’s called The Latest) is available on CD, vinyl and 8-track cartridge. An accompanying video to the album’s cover of Slade’s When The Lights Are Out will be available on Betamax soon. Probably.”

Hundreds of musicians have broken a world record for the largest group of drummers playing the same beat at the same time at Birmingham's National Indoor Arena.
A total of 582 drummers - including a number of celebrity musicians - smashed the previous world record of 533 drummers, set in the United States, just before 4pm on Monday.
Craig Glover, an organiser, said: "It's been absolutely fantastic. Everyone has really enjoyed themselves - it was a really good atmosphere. We did a simple rock groove and played for at least 10 minutes."
The charity event, called Stick It To MS, has so far raised £20,000 for the Multiple Sclerosis Society, although organisers hope to reach £50,000.
Drummers as young as five and as old as 50 travelled from across the UK to take part in the record bid, believed to be the UK's first attempt.
A number of special guest drummers joined in, including Slade's Don Powell and Cold Feet and Coronation Street actor John Thomson.
Mr Glover, 41, from Marston Green, Birmingham, added: "We have video evidence and certificates, which we will now send off to get verified by Guinness (World Records)." "

MÖSSINGEN. In Belsen hat man seit jeher eine ausgesprochene Vorliebe für Althergebrachtes: Als zur Stadterhebung im Sommer 1974 erstmals im Ernwiesenstadion ein Konzert über die Bühne ging, hatten es »Nina & Mike« - obgleich seit 25 Wochen mit »Fahrende Musikanten« in der Hitparade vertreten - schwer, beim Mössinger Publikum Begeisterung zu wecken. Die 1 300 Besucher verschmähten das Newcomer-Duo und feierten stattdessen den Sänger Peter Beil, der sie mit Hitknallern wie »Fremde in der Nacht« zurück in ihre Jugendzeit der 60er-Jahre versetzte.

Rocklegenden und Gitarren reißen in Rainau-Buch 6000 mit
Die Gitarren sind ausgestöpselt, der letzte Bass-Akkord ist verklungen. Am frühen Sonntagmorgen endete der „Rock am Limes“ – rund 6000 begeisterte Fans sahen mit Sweet und Slade die prominentesten Vertreter des Glam-Rock, Smokie als Hauptact, die Heavy-Rock-Legende Saxon und die Anheizer auf der Großbühne neben dem Schützenhaus in Buch.
(RAINAU-BUCH/ij) Die Bilanz an beiden Abenden ist eindeutig, ob beim 20-jährigen Fan oder beim Besucher über 60: Es war ein grandioses Rock-Festival, hochprofessionell organisiert und mit nur einem kleinen Wermutstropfen, der die Gäste aber nicht sonderlich beeindruckte – der Freitagabend war recht frisch, am Samstag regnete es gelegentlich ein wenig.
Unter dem stählernen Adler
Beeindruckend ist für viele schon die 20 mal zwölf Meter breite und zwölf Meter hohe Bühne. Sie ist die mit Abstand größte Bühne für Axassin, die zum ersten Mal vor so einem Publikum und sichtlich begeistert auftreten. Sie sind die Sieger des Band-Contests unserer Zeitung vom 2. Mai, bei dem sie sich eine CD-Produktion und den Ruhm erspielt haben, vor der englischen Rock-Legende Saxon die Stimmung in Buch anzuheizen. Mit ihnen tun dies ELA und Good news, die Opener des Freitagabends.
Der stand, später entsprechend illuminiert, unter dem Zeichen eines riesigen stählernen Adlers über der Bühne, als eindeutiges Attribut für einen Abend der heftig rockenden Strom-Gitarren. Ziemlich deutlich erinnert Eisbrecher an Rammstein. Wuchtige Akkorde, satte Elektro-Parts und ein Sound, der voll auf den Bauch geht, wie etwa "Heilig" von der neuen CD.
"Deutsche Roboter" ist eine Rock-Techno-Nummer als Stechschritt-Persiflage auf deutsche Tugenden. Mit "Miststück" erinnern Eisbrecher an ihre Wurzeln mit der Combo Megaherz.
Wie groß die Unterschiede im gleichen Genre sein können, zeigen dann Gravedigger. Ein schwarzer Kapuzenmann betritt die Bühne und setzt sich ans Key- board. Melodischer Rock wie "Wedding Day" von 1994, dem Jahr der Gravedigger-Reunion, "Silent Revolution" und "Last supper", eine Rock-Ballade auf Jesus’ letzte Stunden, haben sie mitgebracht.
Oldie-Night Niersteiner Park bei Smokie, Sweet und Slade ein Meer aus Armen
Geniales Wetter, ausgelassene Stimmung - und die Gemeinde kommt aus dem Feiern nicht mehr raus. Als Krönung dreier toller Tage rockten Smokie, Sweet und Slade den Niersteiner Gemeindepark nach allen Regeln bestens konservierter Classic Rock-Manier.
Petrus rockt. Er konnte gar nicht anders. Beim Blick von oben auf den Kessel aus nickenden Köpfen, verschwitzten Mähnen und tosendem Applaus, der im Niersteiner Gemeindepark brodelte, muss dem obersten Wetterfrosch das Votum zu Hitze, Heiterkeit und hellblauem Himmel nicht schwergefallen sein. Bis eben einer den Deckel von der Suppe nimmt. Das waren in diesem Fall keine Geringeren als echte Hochkaräter mit der Lizenz zur Reminiszenz. Erinnerung und Schwelgen als Stoff für den ganz eigenen Film vor geistigem Auge, gewürzt mit dem passenden Soundtrack. Keine Frage, dass die Koproduktion der Gemeinde Nierstein, Mach4 und der Dexheimer Schmankerl-Schmiede "Kultur auf dem Hof" mit derartiger Bühnenpräsenz das satte Grün des Gemeindeparks aus allen Nähten platzen ließ.
"Das lässt einen natürlich an früher denken. Ich bin zwar eher ein Fan der härteren Fraktion wie etwa Led Zeppelin oder Deep Purple, aber ich bin begeistert von dem Aufgebot heute. Slade rocken sehr gut", gesteht Andreas Wolf aus Gau-Algesheim mitten in den letzten Gitarrenfontänen zur Hymne mit Party-Garantie "Come on feel the noise". "Da macht es gar nichts, wenn die Herren etwas betagter sind. Da merkt man eben die Authentizität. Das Geld steht nicht mehr im Vordergrund, sondern die Freude am Spielen. Deswegen sind wir gekommen", ergänzt seine Frau Jutta, während "We get wild, wild, wild" den Wellen aus wehenden Armen einen Scheitel zieht.
"My Oh My", "Far Far Away", "Wigwam Bam", "Lay Back in the arms of someone" oder "Living next door to Alice" - von der ersten Minute stiegen die Song-Raketen des dreifachen Classic Rock-Feuerwerks in die warme Niersteiner Abendluft. "Nierstein hat drei tolle Tage hinter sich. 400 Menschen in der Bildstockshohl, 600 bei der Sportplatzeröffnung und jetzt dieses Highlight mit mehreren tausend Menschen. Ich bin den starken Mitveranstaltern Mach4 und Kultur auf dem Hof sehr dankbar für die tolle Zusammenarbeit. Unser Kulturbeauftragter Tobias Bieker und der Bauhof haben in der Vorbereitung Großartiges geleistet - ein echtes Aushängeschild für Nierstein", erklärte Bürgermeister Thomas Günther (CDU), der sich insbesondere über die Vielfalt der Herkunft der Gäste im Park sehr freute.
So sprudelten die Schorlen, ölten Bier und edler Wein durstige Fan-Kehlen und brutzelten Pizza und Pommes. Ob mit Mayo, Ketchup oder einem Schlag bester Laune: Was vom Epizentrum Gemeindepark sternförmig durch Gemeinde und Gemarkung hallte, brauchte keine Richter-Skala, sondern ein Thermometer. Denn die voluminös gelockten und glitzernd gewandeten Rock-Dinos von der Insel transportierten den Sommer in einen Wohlfühl-Mai made in Rheinhessen. "Die Musik ist zwar nicht ganz Meins, aber ich find´s sehr cool, dass auch so viele junge Leute hier sind. Viele Menschen aus der Region wissen, glaube ich, gar nicht, dass das Gelände hier im Park existiert und was hier manchmal geht", kommentiert die 24-jährige Elena gut gelaunt den Abend. Somit bleibt festzuhalten: Dreimal Classic Rock, wieder einmal Gemeindepark und am Ende war´s wieder Kultur Marke "Deluxe".

Am Sonntag, 24. Mai 2009 ab 17 Uhr wird Nierstein zur Oldie-Hauptstadt der Republik erhoben. Kultur auf dem Hof und mach-4 veranstalten in Zusammenarbeit mit der Gemeinde Nierstein die Niersteiner Sommernacht als "Classic Rock Night". Im idyllischen Niersteiner Gemeindepark werden die drei größten Bands der 70er Jahre Smokie, Sweet und Slade auf einer Bühne live zu bewundern sein.
Um Mithilfe bei der Suche nach der weltbesten Rockhymne der Welt wird gebeten.
Wenn das erfolgt,ist ja wohl klar, das es sich um SLADE und My Oh My handelt .

Von Anfang an ging die Post ab bei der Classic Rock Night in der mit rund 2000 Zuhörern gefüllten Würzburger Posthalle, mit vier Bands, die in den sechziger, siebziger, auch noch Anfang der achtziger Jahre viel Ruhm und Geld anhäuften und jetzt wieder auf Tournee gehen, gemeinsam: die deutsche Gruppe The Rattles, dazu aus England The Sweet, Slade und Smokie.
Am 21. November 2009 ab 19 Uhr heißt es in der Messehalle Erfurt: 10 Jahre Traumzeit! Das Jubiläum möchte man zusammen mit den beliebtesten Künstern der vergangenen Traumzeit-Jahre feiern.
Alle Besucher von Traumzeit.de waren Anfang des Jahres aufgefordert, aus 30 Traumzeit-Künstlern ihre Lieblings-Acts für 2009 zu wählen. Das Traumzeit-Team versucht die bestplatzierten erneut für die Traumzeit zu gewinnen.

Die Bands Smokie, The Sweet, Slade und The Rubettes spielten in Emden die großen Hits. Die Gruppen hatten in den späten 60er und 70er Jahren ihre Glanzzeit. Am Sonnabend traten sie in der Nordseehalle vor 1500 Leuten auf.

Dieses Wochenende erscheint das neue Album von Yusuf (vormals Cat Stevens) mit dem Namen "Roadsinger". Es ist eine musikalische Rückbesinnung auf seine Zeit als Cat Stevens und reich an wunderschönen und berührenden Songs. Wir spielen (die Single "Thinking About You" haben wir ja schon in "Solid Gold" vorgestellt) den Titelsong des Albums, sowie eine ganz besondere Live-Version seines Klassikers "Wild World" (aufgenommen für seine Café Session in London 2007).
Superstar und Motown-Legende Lionel Richie kommt für zwei Shows nach Österreich. Am Dienstag spielt er in Salzburg, am Mittwoch in Wien. In "Solid Gold" gibt es zwei Klassiker von ihm zu hören: "Machine Gun" (das er mit seiner Band The Commodores eingespielt hat) und einen Riesenhit aus den 1980ern : "Running With The Night"
Die größten Ö3-Klassiker aller Zeiten kommen diesmal zum Beispiel von den Beatles, Slade , Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel, Free, Al Jarreau, und Bruce Springsteen.

SLADE spielen am Samstag beim "Rock am Limes - Open Air "
Am Freitag, 5., und Samstag, 6. Juni, steht das Rock am Limes Open Air in Rainau- Buch an. Zwei Nächte Musik bis zum Umfallen. Und während am Samstag die Rocklegenden Sweet, Smokie, Slade und The Rubettes eine Classic Rock Night der Sonderklasse hinlegen werden, ist der Freitag den Jungs – und Mädels – der härteren und lautenTöne gewidmet. Das Line-Up lässt Metal- Herzen höher schlagen: Der Headliner hat schon die Haare der Headbanger in den 80ern fliegen lassen: Saxon haben zugesagt.
Gestern war es endlich soweit. Sweet , Rubetts, Smokie und Slade waren in der Emdener Nordseehalle zu Gast. Zuerst kamen die Rubetts auf die Bühe, sangen alte und neue Songs. Dann kamen Slade, die ebenfalls eine gute Show machten. Dann war es endlich soweit, Sweet betraten die Bühne . Andy Scott, der in diesem Jahr seinen 60.Geburtstag feiert immer noch gut drauf. Mister Scott und Band spielten 1 Stunde Sweet vom feinsten. Am Schluß waren Smokie dran.Auch sie spielten ihre Top Songs. Als Schluß Song wurde Alice gespielt.

Metzingen - Bands wie Sweet, Slade, Smokie und Manfred Mann's Earth Band touren im Rahmen der "Classic Rock Night" durch deutsche Kleinstädte. Als Veranstalter der Konzertreise agiert die schwäbische Agentur ROM Entertainment.
Classic-Rock-Fans dürfen sich außerdem auf Auftritte der Bands Rattles, The Rubettes, Glenn Hughes, Saga, UFO, ELA, Bad Company, Mud, Lords und Middle Of The Road freuen. In unterschiedlichen Kombinationen werden im Rahmen der Veranstaltungsreihe pro Abend jeweils zwei bis vier Bands auf der Bühne stehen.
Seit 2001 realisierten Andras Löffler und Willi Wrede mit ihrer Agentur ROM Entertainment europaweit rund 500 Konzerte der "Classic Rock Night"-Reihe. Dabei finden die Shows, wie Geschäftsführer Willi Wrede erklärt, bewusst kaum in Großstädten statt: "Metropolen sind kulturell übersättigt. Die sogenannten 'Flächenstruktur-Gebiete' wiederum werden von den großen Agenturen seltenst beachtet. Deshalb bringen wir dort Musik unters Volk."

"Vom *Springtime Rockfestival Hamburg* und 1100km Fahrtstrecke, wieder zu Hause angekommen. Es war ein sehr schöner Abend mit Rudolf, Klaus und Carsten. Wir feierten mit Sweety Glitter, T- Rex, SLADE, Nazareth, Golden Earring und Manfred Mann`s genau in dieser Reihenfolge. Slade hatte die meisste Stimmung in den Saal gebracht (bei den mitgereisten Fans kein Wunder:-)), Golden Earring war mit Abstand die Lautesten, Nazareth mit einer ungeheuer guten Stimme (einfach nur fantastisch zuzuhören dream on usw), Sweety Glitter und T-Rex waren einfach gute Vorgruppen"
"Arrived at home from the *Springtime Rockfestival* at Hamburg after a tour by car from 1100 km. It was a very nice evenign with Rudolf, Klaus and Carsten. A new visitor attraction charting 60 years of British rock and pop music has opened at the O2 in London.
The British Music Experience combines cutting-edge displays with memorabilia loaned by stars like Amy Winehouse, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie and Oasis.
There is also the chance to learn different dance crazes and try out musical instruments.
Seven musical eras, from 1945 to the present day, are represented with their own exhibition zones.
The 1975-85 zone contains David Bowie's Ashes To Ashes clown suit, Adam Ant's Kings of the Wild Frontier outfit and a blue silk suit worn by Duran Duran's Roger Taylor in their Rio video.

Although for the first time this year a panel of judges got together decided on the Best Overall Restaurant from a selection of the five most voted-for eateries.
The panel included Slade legend Noddy Holder, who hit out at those who say fine dining doesn't reach further than the edges of London in the UK.
He said: "I've got a bee in my bonnet about all these celebrity chefs in London - they think there's no good food North of Watford.
"But I think what tonight proves is that we have got great food in the North. I've eaten in some of these fancy places in London and I tell you, the food is rubbish!"
He told The Diary he reckons the region doesn't need a Michelin Star to make it a great place to eat out.
He said: "I think there's a fantastic choice in Manchester, I don't think the normal man in the street is impressed one way or another how many michelin stars a restaurant has got.
"They want a good night out, ambience and value for money and that's what they're concerned about. I've been to loads of absolutely fabulous restaurants that have never even been considered for a Michelin star and I've been to lots of Michelin-starred restaurants that I do not rate at all."

30 odd years ago Slade`s name was being linked with possibly representing the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest. Well not Slade exactly, but Francine & Nicola, formerly known as Twin. You may remember these girls and their fantastic cover of ”Cum On Feel The Noize” .
Despite their disapointment at not being allowed to participate in X Factor by Simon Cowell (and there were a few in the final 12 with no talent at all) the girlz bounce back in Lord Andrew Lloyd Webbers quest to bring the Eurovision crown back to the UK.
Whilst the X factor was still taking place, the girls had applied for Lord Webbers BBC A Song For Europe (now re-titled Your Country Needs You) show.
Last week UK viewers saw Francine & Nicola make it through to the final 6 performers with the winning act, chosen by the British public, representing the country at the Eurovision Song Contest to be held in Russia on 16th May 2009.

SATURDAY night super stardom beckons for pop singing twins from Dronfield, who are competing to represent Britain in this year's Eurovision Song Contest.
Francine and Nicola Gleadall, both students at Sheffield Hallam University, will perform tomorrow night on BBC One as part of Andrew Lloyd Webber's project Your Country Needs You, in which he will audition acts to sing a song he has written for the contest.

They performed a cover of Slade's Cum on Feel the Noize in front of 28,000 at Hillsborough football ground but hit the headlines for the wrong reason. Their angry response to being jeered by Barnsley fans earned them an £80 fixed penalty for obscene gestures. They also once appeared on X Factor Boot Camp.
Lord Andrew Lioyd Webber is co writing a song for the Uk entry for the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest and the selection process is in full swing, with a four part selection contest on BBC 1 Every Saturday for the next three weeks (part 1 was held on Saturday the 10th Jan)
One of the acts chosen by Lord Webber is none other than Francine & Nicola from Sheffield formerly known as Twin.
Twin released a fantastic version of the Slade classic "Cum On Feel The Noize" in 2006 The girls were chosen by myself (thanks Guy & all at Creation) to play at Sladefest 07 in Bilston Wolverhampton, where they went down a storm.
