Slade - Old New Borrowed and Blue

The first reason that this album is being featured in the re-reviews section is that is was the first album I ever bought. The second reason is that is still stands up as a really (and surprisingly) good album.
I’d become a Slade fan at the time of Slade Alive but it wasn’t until I’d spent a couple of years gazing at that album, Sladest (a somewhat premature “Best Of’) and Slayed? In the record racks at Brashs that I was able to collect enough coins to purchase their new 1973 album.

Lord Andrew Lioyd Webber is co writing a song for the Uk entry for the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest and the selection process is in full swing, with a four part selection contest on BBC 1 Every Saturday for the next three weeks (part 1 was held on Saturday the 10th Jan)
One of the acts chosen by Lord Webber is none other than Francine & Nicola from Sheffield formerly known as Twin.
Twin released a fantastic version of the Slade classic "Cum On Feel The Noize" in 2006
The girls were chosen by myself (thanks Guy & all at Creation) to play at Sladefest 07 in Bilston Wolverhampton, where they went down a storm.

Das Berliner Rundfunk 91!4 Starfestival - Eine musikalische Zeitreise
Das Publikum war sich einig, als es am späten Samstagabend die O2 World verließ: Es war ein grandioses Konzert, bei dem die Stars der 60iger und 70iger Jahre ein erstklassiges Repertoire zum Besten gaben. Vom ersten bis zum letzten Ton wurden die Zuschauer durch die bekannten Berliner Rundfunk 91!4 Hits in die Vergangenheit geschickt.
Den Anfang machten Hot Chocolate, die unter anderem durch ihren Welthit „You sexy thing“ ihren legendären Discosound aufleben ließen. Als Slade gegen 19 Uhr auf die Bühne traten, brachten sie die Stimmung in der O2 World zum Beben. 45 Minuten spielte die erfolgreichste englische Band nach den Beatles einen Hit nach dem Anderen. Das Publikum konnte sich bei My or My, Far Far Away oder Merry Xmas Everybody nicht auf den Sitzen halten und sang und tanzte lautstark mit. Auch The Tremeloes, The Hollies, Karat und Suzi Quatro sorgten mit ihren bekanntesten Songs für die perfekte Party-Stimmung.

Slade shine in homecoming gig
Legendary Black Country rockers Slade made hundreds of fans Feel the Noize when they returned to Wolverhampton for a homecoming gig.
Flamboyant guitarist Dave Hill took centre stage as the band, made up of half the original line-up, belted out their biggest hits in front of more than 550 people at Bilston’s Robin 2 club last night.
Creating an electric atmosphere in the intimate setting of the music venue, the band rocked the stage by displaying the type of energy that belies the ages of these band members, one of whom – Don Powell – is three years away from being a pensioner.
Before the show Dave Hill, who grew up on the Warstones estate in Penn, told the Express & Star Wolverhampton was “a very special place” to perform because “it was where it all started for the band.”

Slade's festive hit banned from hotel
A hotel has banned Slade's festive hit Merry Christmas Everybody because guests find it too irritating.

The Holiday Inn in Kensington, west London, decided they would no longer play the 1973 Christmas Number One following a large number of complaints.
Hotel spokeswoman Eleanor Conroy explained: "We always want to make sure guests have an enjoyable time when they stay with us.

Wolverhampton Community Radio 101.8FM
will be playing nothing but festive favourites from 7am until 7pm.
As well as the classics by Cliff Richard
and Slade,
the station will also be broadcasting lesser-known
Christmassy compositions from the worlds of country music, jazz and RNB.

Sladefest ’09 will be held on Saturday May 16th at the New Springvale Club in Bilston.
A 5 minute stroll from the Trumpet, the club is ideally placed and a great venue.
Proceedings will kick off at 12 noon at the Trumpet – which will stay open all afternoon for us. This will be an informal affair, with quite possibly a sing song or two!
We’re planning to start the main event at the club with an exhibition being open between 4pm – 6pm. This will be followed by the usual quiz, 70’s dress competition etc.
The live entertainment will commence at 8pm. Paul Cookson will be there with some new poems plus Let It Roll playing some classic rock plus some Slade trax not performed by FS before Flamin’ Slade hit the stage.
The bar will stay open til late and the venue will be open until 2am, so plenty of time to chill out and chat at the end of the day.
Tickets will be £10.
Ticket numbers are limited this year – the venue isn’t as vast as the Robin.

The hospice’s Santas on the Run event is being promoted by the legendary Slade front man with a rehash of his unmistakable It’s Christmaaaasssss! call.

Keep Hold of Xmas TOTP
NODDY HOLDER, the glam rock lord from SLADE, is the latest star to join my bid to bring back the Top Of The Pops Christmas Special.
I revealed on Tuesday how killjoys at the BBC have axed the December 25 edition after 43 years.
Readers have bombarded my inbox calling for its return.
X Factor chief SIMON COWELL called me earlier this week offering to broadcast it.
And Noddy, who penned 1973 Christmas chart-topper Merry Xmas Everybody, said: “The BBC should be ashamed. Long live turkey sandwiches and me!”

Although Slade saw their biggest commercial success between 1972 and 1974, this show, culled from the archives of promoter Bill Graham, showed the Brit rockers were still red-hot as a live act in 1975.
Opening with "Them Kinda Monkeys Can't Swing," they move next into "Bangin' Man," a song that described life as a rock star in the mid-1970s. Another highlight is an extended version of "Let The Good Times Roll," which moves into "Get Down and Get With It." There are more big hits thrown in for good measure, making this a complete Slade show.
Formed in 1966 in the English industrial midlands as the N'Betweens, the band soon built up a formidable following on the live circuit playing their own versions of contemporary rock covers and obscure U.S. R&B records. A name change to Ambrose Slade and a record deal with Fontana records followed, but it wasn't until 1969, when they were signed up by former Jimi Hendrix manager and Animals bass player Chas Chandler, did Slade begin to make themselves known to a wider audience.

Walsall rocker Noddy Holder found fame with 1970s rock group Slade, best known for their hits Merry Xmas Everybody and Cum On, Feel the Noize. The star frequently pops up on television and was famously the face of Nobby’s Nuts in their 2005 ad campaign. Although he now lives in Cheshire, Holder still maintains a quintessential Black Country accent and his voice can be heard in the lifts at the Walsall New Art Gallery.

Slade’s lead guitarist Dave Hill (pictured here on the left with Steve Priest from Sweet) moved to Wolverhampton from Devon with his parents as a baby. After attending Highfields Secondary Modern school, Dave worked for Tarmac before meeting up with Walsall singer Noddy Holder and fellow Wolverhampton resident Jimmy Lea, who went on to play bass in Slade. He lives in Penn and is reported to occasionally teach music at Lower Penn School.
